The Unheard was born from a simple but heartbreaking realization: too many lives are lived in silence.
For years, I walked past people living on the streets of Cape Town – wondering who they were, what they’d lost, and what they still hoped for. As a mental health professional, activist and storyteller, I knew the power of voice. And I knew that while poverty is visible, the people behind it are often unseen.
The turning point came when I started having deeper conversations with those who had been silenced for too long. I stopped asking “what happened to you?” and started asking, “what would you like people to understand?” What followed were stories of pain, yes - but also resilience, humour, love, and dreams that never died.
The Unheard isn’t just a series. It’s a collective listening.
It was created to hold space for voices that matter - but have been ignored for far too long.
This project is about restoring dignity through storytelling. It’s about reminding Cape Town, and the world, that no one is invisible - not really - not if we choose to see them.
